Donald Trump’s ISIS Myth Unraveling Before Our Eyes

Newsweek’s Kurt Eichenwald had some fun at Donald Trump’s expense last night, but there is a sting to his words. Eichenwald alludes to Trump’s constant harping about the threat of ISIS. Trump once said, “We don’t even really know who the leader [of ISIS] is,” but we do – and he’s in Mosul.

As Eichenwald tweeted,

As explained by Foreign Policy, Iraqis, Kurdish peshmerga, and Turks, supported by U.S. air power, are closing in on Mosul.

Keep in mind this is all funny because Trump thinks these success against his invented bogeyman is a conspiracy, saying at the debate the other night,

“The only reason they did it is because she’s running for the office of president. They want to look tough. They want to look good.”

Yes, I’m sure that’s it. Not that anybody on our side might know how to fight a war. In fact, we can add “he doesn’t know a damn thing about military strategy” do the long list of other things Trump doesn’t know:

President Obama so knows what he’s doing that don’t actually need to go with Trump’s “I would do things that would be so tough…”

(And hey, I wonder if that included invading Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s personal space…)

And you know what else? We may not need Trump’s “secret” plan after all:

“I do know what to do and I would know how to bring ISIS to the table or beyond that, defeat ISIS very quickly and I’m not going to tell you what is… All I can tell you it is a foolproof way of winning.â€

As Eichenwald pointed out in another tweet, the ISIS leader is actually trapped is Mosul:

Trump said ISIS is laughing at us” but I bet Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi isn’t laughing right now. He’s probably trying to figure how to get the hell out of Mosul.

When Trump says things like that, or the following…

“We really have no choice. We have to knock out ISIS. We have to knock the hell out of them… I would listen to the generals but I’m hearing numbers of 20,000 to 30,000. We have to knock them out fast.”

You have to remember that they’re already back on their heels, being driven hard by a loose coalition aided by the United States of America. And no, Russia is not helping. Russia isn’t attacking ISIS forces. Trump’s buddy Putin, like Trump, has his own agenda.

You have to remember now, as ISIS finds itself threatened with defeat, that Trump said,

“I’m never going to rule anything out—I wouldn’t want to say [if I’d use nuclear weapons against ISIS.]â€

Yes, Trump would drop nukes at the drop of the hat, even when events have proven they’re not needed, simply because he can.

Like he once asked – three times in a single hour – “If we have [nuclear weapons] why can’t we use them?”

Well, Donald, it’s because only catastrophically stupid people do that.

Look, President Obama did the impossible and got bin Laden without your help. There is no reason to think he can’t get al-Baghdadi too.
