Biden Hits Palin on Disabled Kids and Stem Cell Research

ImageThe McCain campaign is outraged because today in Missouri Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden asked if Sarah Palin cares about disabled kids so much, why does she oppose embryonic stem cell research.

According to Ben Smith while campaigning in Missouri Biden said, “I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there's joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell research?”

I think it is a valid question, but McCain campaign disagrees. Ben Porritt, spokesman for the McCain campaign said, “Barack Obama’s running mate sunk to a new low today launching an offensive debate over who cares more about special needs children. Playing politics with this issue is disturbing and indicative of a desperate campaign.”

Notice the tactic here, anytime an issue is brought up, it is dirty pool. Biden did not mention Palin’s child, but somehow we are not to discuss the issue of stem cell research and her position on it. She, like most neo-cons, opposes embryonic stem cell research for strictly religious reasons. The question is even more compelling when one considers that she has a disabled child, and she is not in favor of a treatment option that could help her own child.

In the end the issue of embryonic stem cell research in this country has little to do with science and everything to do with religion. I think Palin needs to answer these kinds of questions. If her opposition is based on religious belief then say so. The reality is that if this is the reason why she opposes, the social conservative base of the Republican Party will support her even more. However this isn’t what the campaign is worried about.

They are worried that once Palin’s right wing views are exposed to non-Republicans, she is going to lose whatever extra support that her selection brought to the campaign. Palin isn’t the candidate that the McCain camp is selling her as, and eventually, this is going to catch up with them.

I find it funny that they are trying to sell the Obama campaign as desperate, when every move the McCain camp has made has looked desperate. I guess Obama is desperate due to that big McCain convention bounce. Wait, there was no bounce. They can try to hide Palin all they want, but eventually, she is going to have to face the music.

Sadly,
This is the kind of thing the Repubes are gonna play. Anything the Dems do is going to be skewed by them as an unfair attack. They made Palin the victim right off the bat and sadly stupid lemmings in the USA will buy it. I hate to say this to my smart thinking American friends, but I fear for the results in Nov.

Palin VP pick

I WAS a declared Republican . . .

There seems to be a double standard here. McCain/Palin can throw out all the nasty lies and remarks they want, and if Obama/Biden say anything they are somehow playing dirty. What!? An old saying of 'dishing it out and can't take it'. We don't need these theatrics, we need answers to the questions. If she was truly experienced and ready she'd play the game like the rest of them.

McCain is no longer credible because of his VP choice, and the lengths he and the party are going to for the defense of a poor choice. He's just trying to get us to grant his last wish before he moves on.

If families are so important to them why did he ask Palin to leave hers to run? How can she be a successful mother if she isn't even there? Most working mothers haven't a choice, they must work to survive, thanks to the last 8 yrs of administration. They are in a different situation than the Republicans are trying to paint Palin. She has a CHOICE of career/full-time motherhood and she chose the career. They make her out to be some superwoman that is somehow smarter and tougher than any woman or man has ever been on the planet.

I would like to see her help her daughter through her unexpected pregnancy, and truly mother her baby. That would prove to me her Christian and family values. Finish raising them, then pursue the career. She's smart and very persuasive and tough, but not ready yet. Sorry Sarah, maybe in at least 8 or so more years.

Palin Does Not Oppose All Stem Cell Research

Biden lied when he made a universal statement that Sarah Palin opposes stem cell research. This is not surprising since unborn don't matter to Biden the "Catholic" (ha). Palin (and McCain) are opposed to using cloned embryos in stem cell research, as are millions of people, but they favor using stem cells from sources that do not kill human beings to get them. Get your stories straight, baby hater!
