Investigators are paying attention to Trump’s Twitter account, and they are finding behavior that is leading them to the heart of the Russia scandal.
On Saturday, Trump tweeted:
When will Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd and @NBCNews start talking about the Obama SURVEILLANCE SCANDAL and stop with the Fake Trump/Russia story?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 1, 2017
On Sunday, Trump added:
The real story turns out to be SURVEILLANCE and LEAKING! Find the leakers.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 2, 2017
The bad news for Trump is that congressional investigators are also paying attention to what he is tweeting.
As the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told CNN’s State of the Union, “You know, I would tell people, whenever they see the president use the word ‘fake,’ it ought to set off alarm bells…I think the answer may come from the president, himself. And you can say a lot of things about the president, but one thing you cannot say is he’s not subtle. And I think his tweets tell the story. And the story is, look over there at leaks, and look over there at anything the Obama administration we can claim did wrong on incidental collection or anything else, but, whatever you do, under no circumstances look here at me or at Russia.”
Trump thinks that he is defending himself and swaying public opinion, but with each tweet, the president is digging himself in deeper. Congressional investigators are paying attention and watching Donald Trump dig his political grave 140 characters at a time.
