New Poll Shows People Aren’t Buying The GOP’s Attempts To Blame Democrats For Shutdown

The government shutdown has stretched into its third day and despite the Republican Party’s attempts to convince everyone that Democrats are to blame for the situation, most people think the GOP is responsible.

A new poll conducted by Politico/Morning Consult shows that 41% blame Republicans for the failure to negotiate a budget deal, with 36% blaming Democrats and 23% saying they either didn’t know or had no opinion.

Trump and GOP legislators have been attempting to place the blame on Democrats since even before  the shutdown began. “Dems want a Shutdown in order to help diminish the great success of the Tax Cuts, and what they are doing for our booming economy,” Trump tweeted on Friday.

On Saturday when the shutdown started, Trump tweeted that the shutdown was “a nice present” that the Democrats had given him for the one year anniversary of his inauguration, which coincidentally fell on the same day. He also added the hashtag #DemocratShutdown to the post.

Other GOP members have mainly been trying to put the fault on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. House Speaker Paul Ryan, Donald Trump Jr., Sen. Ted Cruz, and others have all pushed the #SchumerShutdown hashtag on social media and have promoted the narrative in interviews.

Still, despite these efforts it looks like most people aren’t buying the Republican spin.
