Intelligence Committee Democrat Calls On Trump To Resign The Presidency

Democratic Rep. Denny Heck of the House Intelligence Committee called on Donald Trump to resign his office before the walls completely close in on him and his family.

The Washington representative said this week’s stunning developments, particularly in the Michael Cohen guilty plea, makes it clear that this is “the most corrupt administration in modern history.”

“I don’t think that’s a subjective evaluation or interpretation of the number of criminal indictments and convictions at the felony level,” he said.

The Democratic congressman said:

Most of us believe that we ought to allow Director Mueller to conclude his work before that even becomes a serious conversation but I’ll tell you this, Chris: I think the walls are closing in on President Trump. And as of Tuesday, August 21st, I think we can officially mark it as the most corrupt administration in modern history. I think that’s a matter of fact. I don’t think that’s a subjective evaluation or interpretation of the number of criminal indictments and convictions at the felony level. I actually think the president ought to start having a conversation with his god and his family and himself about resigning.

If Trump truly wants to put America first, he should resign

The Democratic congressman’s argument essentially boils down to this: Trump should resign, so the country can avoid the political circus of impeachment proceedings and restore some stability in the nation’s capital.

This would allow the country to move on from the era of chaos Trump has brought about and instead focus on the issues that so many voters care about: health care, wage stagnation, the environment and equal rights for every American, among so many others.

At the very same time, the legal process could carry on separately to hold Trump accountable for the federal crimes in which he’s been implicated this week – and those yet to be revealed.

To borrow a phrase from the Watergate era, it’s time to end this long national nightmare and begin to repair the vast damage the Trump presidency has done over the past year and a half.
