Former White House official Fiona Hill is testifying Thursday in the House impeachment inquiry, and her opening statement is a doozy for those who live in a Republican Bubble.
Hill says not only was Russia the country that “interfered” in our 2016 election, but they were successful.
Furthermore, those lawmakers who are claiming Ukraine attacked our country are parroting Putin’s talking points.
“I—and they—thought I could help them with President Trump’s stated goal of improving relations with Russia, while still implementing policies designed to deter Russian conduct that threatens the United States, including the unprecedented and successful Russian operation to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
This relates to the second thing I want to communicate.
Based on questions and statements I have heard, some of you on this committee appear to believe that Russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country—and that perhaps, somehow, for some reason, Ukraine did. This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves.
The unfortunate truth is that Russia was the foreign power that systematically attacked our democratic institutions in 2016. This is the public conclusion of our intelligence agencies, confirmed in bipartisan Congressional reports. It is beyond dispute, even if some of the underlying details must remain classified.”
Sure, you’re thinking hello we all know this. But we don’t “all” accept this. And that is the point.
This is reality. A hostile foreign country attacked our country and Republicans not only refuse to protect this country, but refuse to even admit that we have been attacked.
The reason they won’t admit we have been attacked is that the attack put their party in the White House and that helped some of them down ticket.
Ukraine comes back to Russia because not only did Trump already do with Russia what he is trying to do with Ukraine, but what he did with Ukraine gave Russia exactly what they wanted. Meanwhile, Republicans act as if they took an oath to serve Russia, not the United States.
Fiona Hill’s opening statement doesn’t come out and say Republicans are lying to people. She’s a non-partisan, and so she said instead that the things they are saying are not true.
She said the things they are saying feed the Russians what they want.
This is the opposite of the line Republicans have been giving Americans for years. Republicans haven’t even read the Mueller report yet and probably never will.
