Rep. Grijalva was the first member of Congress to endorse Sen. Sanders. He was a top surrogate for the Sanders campaign and spoke often and passionately about Sen. Sanders’ presidential candidacy.
A little more than a week ago, Rep. Grijalva suggested that it was time for Sanders to do the right thing, “The reality is unattainable at some point. You deal with that. Bernie is going to deal with this much more rapidly than you think. At some point, when we’re trying to flip 400 super-delegates, and it’s not gaining traction, I think you have to come to the conclusion that it’s not going to happen. You just move into a different direction. And that different direction is that we begin to try to integrate the party. He’s gonna do the right thing.â€
For those last few Bernie supporters who are hanging on, it’s clear that the campaign is breaking up. Bernie Sanders will take something to the Democratic convention in Philadelphia, but what he brings may be a presidential campaign in name only.
Sen. Sanders has shifted his focus to the Democratic platform and addressing the issues that he sees with the Democratic primary process. Sanders surrogates are moving on, as the Democratic Party comes together to defeat Donald Trump.
