The Patriotic Millionaires were not impressed, following the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office’s scoring of the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA) which revealed that a stunning 22 million more people would be without healthcare.
“America needs healthy workers, and to be healthy, they need health care for themselves and their families. Gutting coverage, as this bill does, will lead to deaths due to lack of coverage, and the legislators who vote this in are mercenary murderers, contracted and paid for by the insurance companies and ultra rich,” said Patriotic Millionaire Blaine Garst.
Patriotic Millionaire Joshua Kanter pointed out that trickle down economics has been disproved, and giving tax cuts to the rich won’t solve all problems. He added, “There is simply no defensible ideology behind that point of view. I would urge anyone dying because of a lack of access to healthcare to die on the doorstep of one of these senators.”
“On one side you have the most conservative senators who think the government should not be in the healthcare business and those who cannot get treatment will die. That’s a respectable position even if we disagree,” Kanter said in a statement sent to PoliticusUSA.
“At the other end you have a more compassionate point of view that says the government must address this problem. But in the middle, unfortunately, we have a majority of Republican senators who continue to worship at the altar of disproven trickle down economics who believe that those who need government assistance are simply not trying hard enough or that giving tax cuts to the wealthy will solve all problems. There is simply no defensible ideology behind that point of view.
“I would urge anyone dying because of a lack of access to healthcare to die on the doorstep of one of these senators,” Joshua Kanter added.
Patriotic Millionaire Joel Kanter said he could not imagine a more heartless way of governing and called out Republicans for selling this tax cut and repeal of rights and benefits as “health care”, “Leaving aside that passage of this bill might be the first time in American History that a significant ‘right’ and ‘benefit’ conveyed to the American People was then revoked, and leaving aside that doing so violates President Trump’s own campaign pledge to ‘provide affordable health insurance to all Americans’, the real travesty of this legislation is that it will leave millions and millions of needy Americans without coverage so that Republicans can pay for a tax cut that will benefit the most wealthy Americans who need it least.”
“I cannot imagine a more heartless way of governing, which is only made worse by the conscious attempt to obfuscate what is really being done and try to sell this to the American people as health care reform,” Joel Kanter added.
Morris Pearl, Chair of Patriotic Millionaires and former managing director at BlackRock Inc., called the GOP bill “morally bankrupt” and said it would result in Americans becoming “literally bankrupt.”
“Taking health care away from millions of people just to give millionaires, billionaires, and health insurance companies a huge tax cut is un-American and cruel,” Pearl said. “As wealthy Americans, we want nothing to do with a tax cut, one that we don’t need, that comes at the expense of millions of other Americans.”
Pearl called on Senators to reject the BCRA, “If the members of the Senate are concerned about what is best for all of their constituents, not just their wealthy donors, they will do the right thing and reject the Better Care Reconciliation Act.”
Patriotic Millionaire Dick Gary said he can fully understand McConnell’s desire to keep it a secret given the contents of Trumpcare. He added that we should call the bill TrumpCareLess, “This bill is a grievous insult to the American people and it puts us even farther behind other civilized nations in providing for the welfare of our citizens. Perhaps a more appropriate name for the bill would be TrumpCaresLess.”
Republicans are being eviscerated for the poorly constructed, rushed, secret tax cut they are passing off as a health care bill.
Millionaires and billionaires don’t need more tax cuts. But our veterans, young people, elders, poor, middle class- everyone else, pretty much, needs affordable healthcare access. Many people will die if they don’t get it.
So, on one hand we have tax cuts that no one needs and on the other, we have millions of people who will be without insurance and no money to put their mom or dad, grandma or grandpa in a nursing home.
What kind of country do we want this to be? “The legislators who vote this in are mercenary murderers, contracted and paid for by the insurance companies and ultra rich…”
That is exactly the opposite of the kind of country our founders intended when they started this great experiment. We have mercenary murderers in the Senate. Anything for another dollar for the richest people in our country.
