Republicans have tried every possible delaying tactic: an amendment by John McCain, failed Saturday on a 59-37 vote; on Sunday, a second by Jim Risch, 32-60.
It is important that President Obama communicates to the American people his attempts at compromise and bipartisanship because it will expose the Republicans as the obstructionists they really are.
This morning on his radio show, Rush Limbaugh made a case for why the Republicans don't want to vote on the START treaty. Apparently, none of them have had time to read it and Rush thinks they should be given special consideration for their reading impairment. DeMint has called to have all legislation read aloud to him on the Senate floor since he has been unable to complete the 17 page document on his own. Mr DeMint and his Republican buddies now advocate for a special ed version of the Senate in order to accommodate their choice to remain ignorant.
Republicans claim we need an anti-missile defense system [cue to them rubbing their hands greedily together in anticipation]. But isn’t the best way to get rid of a missile threat to get rid of the missiles themselves? Oh wait, a missile defense system is another way to spend money and ratchet up the U.S. deficit. Getting rid of missiles gives Republicans less to spend money on.
It's hard to keep up with the Republicans these days. They're a regular three-ring circus being lead around by leaders like Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck -- two out of three of whom we know didn't finish college. We haven't seen Palin's degree from the 5th or 6th college she attended, but recklessly, we are taking her word that she graduated. Personally, I'm still waiting to see her high school diploma, but that's just me. At any rate, with leaders like this, it's no wonder that the Republicans are going up in flames.
