Healthcare Denied for 9/11 First Responders: Who Owns the GOP?

Senate Republicans are scrambling to come up with excuses for why they once again filibustered against the 9/11 First Responders health care bill: There were other issues more pressing. There’s no deadline – the bill can be looked at next year. We need to concentrate on the taxes and the budget. The bill is too expensive. The spending needs to be offset. I had to go home (Sam Brownback). I don’t remember whether I’m for the bill or against it (really, Orrin Hatch?).

Rush Limbaugh Accuses Those Who Celebrate DADT Repeal of Hating the Military

On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh accused anyone who celebrated the repeal of DADT of hating the military. Limbaugh asked, “By the way, isn’t it revealing my friends, the same people who have only shown hatred and contempt for the US military are the ones celebrating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell as a great historic accomplishment?”

Joe Scarborough loves him for it, squealing that Chris Christie makes him feel like a 14 year old girl at a Beatles concert. Nothing spells GOP recovery like a suffering American economy. And nothing says desperate party like pushing Chris Christie as the next great white hope.

A Mushroom Cloud of Obstruction: Why Republicans Are Blocking START

Republicans will not address the START treaty because it is a top foreign policy priority of the Obama Administration. Unfortunately, without a means of accounting for every last nuclear device in the Russian arsenal, it is a very real possibility that a rogue nation or terror group can acquire and detonate a nuclear device in an American city. For humanity, that would be a disaster of epic proportion, but for Republicans, it will be a reason to blame the Obama Administration for allowing an attack on America. Perhaps that is their real goal; a mushroom cloud over a major American city.

START Treaty Overcomes Two Republican Amendments

Republicans have tried every possible delaying tactic: an amendment by John McCain, failed Saturday on a 59-37 vote; on Sunday, a second by Jim Risch, 32-60.
