Rachel Maddow destroyed Donald Trump‘s fake emergency declaration once and for all on Monday night.
The MSNBC host said the latest proof that Trump‘s declaration is bogus is his purge of top officials at agencies that would deal with a supposed national security crisis – if there was one.
“If you tried to declare something a national emergency, that would mean you would want to staff up the parts of the federal government that are assigned to deal with that supposed emergency,” Maddow said. “It’s quite the opposite here. ”

Maddow said:
In a normal administration, you would expect people at that high of a level at that big an agency to be replaced and on the double. I mean, if nothing else, you would usually think that if you tried to declare something a national emergency, that would mean you would want to staff up the parts of the federal government that are assigned to deal with that supposed emergency. It’s quite the opposite here. The president is simulataneously declaring a national emergency on the border and he’s firing all officials for all major agencies that deal with that in the government without any real effort to nominate replacements for them.
Trump’s national emergency myth is officially busted
It has long been obvious that Donald Trump‘s emergency declaration was nothing more than a temper tantrum over his inability to get congressional funding for his ego wall on the southern border.
When he announced the national emergency, Trump himself even admitted that he “didn’t need to do this,” meaning he never really saw the situation on the border as a dire national security threat. He is just using the maneuver as a way to make up for his failure to fulfill a campaign promise.
Trump‘s purge of the Department of Homeland Security put the final nail in his always-ridiculous national emergency declaration coffin.
