Donald Trump’s nightmare scenario appears to be unfolding before our eyes as a new poll from his favorite cable news outlet shows that a clear majority of Americans believe he should be impeached and removed from office.
According to the Fox News survey, 51 percent believe the Ukraine scandal warrants an impeachment inquiry and, more importantly, that the president should be booted from the White House.

As the polling shows, support for impeachment has surged by nine percentage points over the past few months.  In July, a plurality of respondents said Trump should not be impeached. Now, a majority believe he should be impeached and removed.
To make matters worse for the president, this new data comes on the same day Trump invented a fake poll and claimed that just 25 percent of the country wants him to be impeached.
Republicans should be panicking
Of course, this isn’t only a disaster for Donald Trump. It’s also a major problem for the Republican Party, who has spent the last three years looking the other way as this president abuses the power of his office.
The more polls that are conducted, the more clear it is that the American people side with the Democrats as they seek to hold Trump accountable for his clear high crimes and misdemeanors with respect to Ukraine.
As MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki pointed out this week, poll after poll shows that support for an impeachment inquiry is solid and the number of Americans who believe Trump should be removed from office is growing.
The Fox News poll released on Wednesday is just the latest in a growing mountain of data that shows that this presidency is a sinking ship. Any Trump-defending Republican in Congress who isn’t panicking right now simply isn’t paying attention.
