Covid-19 has now been a defining part of our lives for a year and a half. And we are now entering a new phase: trying to transition this disease from a society-crashing pandemic to a more manageable endemic disease.
In the last week, red states have begun to lift their COVID restrictions. Not only have states like Texas and Mississippi told business they can open at 100%, they have also removed all requirements to wear face masks.
According to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll, the majority of Americans believe authorities should jail or fine people who don’t wear face masks to ward off the novel coronavirus.
The poll found that 53 percent of survey participants said they would “strongly support” mandatory mask orders that include jail time or fines for people who don’t comply. 19 percent said they’d “somewhat” support a proposal. 21 percent either opposed or somewhat opposed a mandate.
A Republican senator is urging Donald Trump to wear a mask because of the ongoing threat from the Coronavirus pandemic. Lamar Alexander wants to end partisan debate on the issue.
The Tennessee senator, who is chairman of the Senate Health Committee, said on Tuesday that he suggested wearing a mask to the President.
Joe Biden has called the President “bizarre” for his failure to act on Coronavirus. The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate also pointed to his warnings about a pandemic in January.
