Battling the Tea Party over the Language of Liberty

There is a battle being waged in America today over the meaning of liberty. The Tea Party has co-opted the language of liberty, but freedom for all does not interest them. They want freedom for the few at the expense of the many. Real choice, real liberty, is devalued by the limited menu offered by the Tea Party. They want to “take America back” but they don’t want to share it.

Right Wing Cyber Terrorists Fail To Silence PoliticusUSA with DDoS Attack

Recent visitors to my blog PoliticusUSA had undoubtedly noticed that the site had been crashing frequently. At first both tech support and myself thought a new server was the cause, but the real cause was much more sinister. We were the victims of a sophisticated DDoS attack. Since the far right did not like what we were publishing, they decided you should not be able to read it. This is what passes for freedom in “Real America.”

Rahm Emanuel: GOP Leaders Are Scared of the Tea Party

In an interview that will air on CBS’ 60 Minutes on Sunday night, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel waded into the civil war that is going on within the Republican Party. Emanuel refused to identify the tea partiers by name, but he described the state of the GOP as being, “at the behest of a fringe group that’s taken control of their own party and their own leaders are scared of it.”

The Tea Party Apocalypse Is Upon Us

There are many potential or would-be leaders for the Tea Party craze – from libertarians to conservatives to Christian dominionists like Sarah Palin. The “New World Order” phenomenon is by no means limited to conservatives and Christian apocalyptic millenialists awaiting the return of Jesus but is embraced by some libertarians as well.

The Founding Fathers Did Not Wear Tinfoil Hats

Tea Partiers present themselves as average, everyday Americans who have been pushed too far. From their perspective, they are us. They are America. But they are no America I know or am familiar with. Their America seems to be a phobic, paranoid little place rife with conspiracies intent on overthrowing “real†America. They claim to represent the ideas of the Founding Fathers, but the Founding Fathers did not wear tin foil hats.

Obama Mocks Fox News and the Tea Bag Protests

At a town hall meeting in Arnold, MO, President Obama took a not so veiled shot at Fox News and the tea bag protests. Obama talked about a certain news channel where he isn’t very popular and people waving tea bags around. Obama said that these people are playing games and pretending that the problem is the Recovery Act.

GOP Tries to Muscle in on the Tea Party Movement

The organizers of the April 15 Chicago Tea Party claim that they rejected a request from RNC Chairman Michael Steele to speak at the event, but Steele claims that he never asked to speak. The real story here is that the GOP is trying to muscle in on the Tea Party Movement, but not all Tea Parties will be alike. Republicans will find themselves unwelcome at true grass roots events.
